Becky Harris Sullivan
Principal & Founder Pika Advisory, LLC

Hi. I’m Becky.

I’m the principal and founder of Pika Advisory, LLC, a one-stop shop for policy and technical writing largely focused on renewable energy and climate tech.

I’ve worked as a writer for nearly 20 years, crafting engaging content for organizations at the nexus of environment, energy, and global development.

I’ve collaborated with everyone from leading environmental and human rights NGOs to innovative clean energy startups and cutting-edge climate tech companies, to think tanks, municipal governments, federal laboratories, and other such trailblazers within the energy and environment space.

2021 was the year I went rogue, when I took the plunge and launched my own consultancy, Pika Advisory, allowing me to leverage my writing talents to support the people, companies, and causes in which I believe—from wherever I choose to be.

Since then, I’ve spent my time and energies collaborating with incredible scientists and engineers who are dreaming up tomorrow's renewable energy evolutions and revolutions, with the climate tech mavericks who are shaking up the status quo.

I am fortunate enough to be able to choose clients who spend each hour of every day laying the groundwork for a healthier planet and a better tomorrow.

My specialty lies in translating dense research and policy documents into digestible and engaging content. I also have a flair for composing opinion pieces on topics of political and economic interest.

I’ve written and ghostwritten high-profile media pieces for outlets such as the Washington Post, the New York Times, and Foreign Policy. I’ve drafted talking points, web copy, magazine and feature articles, donor materials, white papers, press releases, reports, annual reports, and anything else you could probably imagine. I’ve supported the development of memos and multi-year project plans for U.S. government agencies and have produced and shaped technical content for researchers within the federal laboratory system.

During my nearly ten years in Washington, DC, I researched and wrote on a wide spectrum of policy issues. I’ve covered subjects ranging from the World Bank energy lending portfolio and international financial institution accountability; to transparency of financial disclosures in the extractive industries; to telling the story of how scientific research can prompt environmental regulatory changes at the state level.

A career highlight was serving as a member of the Obama-Biden Transition Team in 2008.

I sharpened my B2B experience working as a copywriter for various agencies, producing content for clients that ran the gamut from strategic consultancies and financial services to healthcare, manufacturers, climate tech startups, and universities.

My climate and clean energy cred runs deep: In addition to my work monitoring World Bank energy lending, I’ve collaborated with the City of Boulder's Climate Initiatives department and I also spent several years as a Senior Writer and Strategic Communications Advisor at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the only federally-funded laboratory dedicated to the research, development, commercialization, and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

While at NREL, I supported the strategic energy analysis team, the Joint Institute for Strategic Energy Analysis (JISEA), as well as the wind and water power teams. I wrote on everything from agrivoltaics and battery supply chains, to modeling software, to the specifics of various wave energy converter designs, and the recyclability of thermoplastic wind turbine blades.

I hold an MA in International Relations, with concentrations in International Economics, Conflict Management, and French, from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and International Studies (and a few credits shy of an Italian minor) from Washington University in St. Louis.

I happily call “The Republic of Boulder” (Boulder, Colorado) home.
